What are the differences in the rights between a civil union and marriage?
Q. The propositions passed to ban gay marriage (which I disagree on), and others have told me that gay couples can have civil unions and have the same rights as married couples- I suspect that isn't true though. Can someone provide more information on differences (if any) between the rights of a married couple and the rights of a civil union couple?

A. Any proposed statute could only affect state rights, not federal. Federal issues include taxation, testimonial priviledge, inheritance taxes. Other issues involve the private sector. Insurance companies, for instance, recognize marriage but cannot be forced to recognize other groupings. Private hospitals will recognize the rights of a spouse of an unconscious person, but need not recognize unions. Pension rights are similar.

What other human rights will a fetus want once personhood is established?
Q. Will pregnant women get to vote twice? Or is the woman's right to vote stripped from her and given to the fetus? The vote should be given to the fetus since the woman cannot be trusted. She might vote for a Pro Choice politician. The fetus of course would vote for the politician that is giving life to the unborn fetus. Why not strip pregnant women of their right to vote while we suspend their rights to life, LIBERTY (FREEDOM) and pursuit of happiness? We are trying to give those rights to the fetus so why stop there? Agree or disagree?

A. The Constitution does not "give" any rights to individuals. It acknowledges that individuals have rights simply because they are human. Their rights to life, liberty, and private property are inherent to the human condition and laws were made to protect them, they were not created by laws. Citizens have an inherent right to the life given to them by their creator, they have an inherent right to freely use their talents in any way they choose that does not violate the natural rights of another individual, and they have a right to keep the rewards realized from the application of their talents to the resources around them. What rights does the biological dad have if another guy signed the birth certificate?

My ex boyfriend found out he has a two year old kid, but the women he had this kid with said that her current boyfriend was the father so he signed the birth certificate and now they found out that my ex boyfriend is the father? what rights does he have since someone else signed the birth certificate and has been raising this kid for 2 years. This other guys wants the rights, because he has been raising the child. The biological dad is willing to give up his rights, how does he go about that?

Much of this is brought about because there are always those who believe they can fix everything by enacting a new law, Some good examples would be: guns, seatbelts, civic codes, etc.

A question to right wing christians on the matter of parental rights and parental authority?
Q. I often hear conservatives insist that parents have certain rights and authority over their own children. I often hear of conservatives complain of those rights being violated by the government. The Rick Perry STD vaccination case being one. My question is this; suppose you know of a classmate of your child who is interested in going to your church; but is forbidden by her atheist parent. Are you compelled to respect the parental rights and authority of the atheist parent? Or are you compelled to get that child to church one way or another?

What human rights are being violated when students are not allowed to use the restroom during class?
Q. I'm writing a paper on why rules against students using the restroom during class are unfair. My three reasons: rules against students doing so are unfair to those who would not cause trouble, could lead to health complications, and are violating human rights. What are the rights of an author of an article in a professional journal?
Q. When an academic or professional journal publishes an article, what are the rights of the author, assuming there is no payment or fee involved? Is this determined by copyright law or is there typically a written publishing agreement - a contract - between the author and the journal? A. Unless there is a written agreement to the contrary, the author of an article generally owns the copyright to the article. There are exceptions, however, such as work for hire. There is no such thing as a "standard custom" for ANY contract. Within legal limits, of course, every contract can be customized depending on what the contracting parties want to happen. What may be right for you, may not be right for some. As a disclaimer, I should say that my answer is generalized based purely on the very limited facts provided. Your post sounds like a real issue for you. If that is the case, then I strongly suggest you speak to your attorney. An attorney will be able to flesh out the relevant facts, some of which you may not be aware.

Previous Question I 13 and go to manatee glens Last week I went to my counsler that I have been seeing for 9 months and ask for a new one to have a new start because I haven't felt better about myself. A. First of all, how old are you & are you a mandated client? When you say "counseler" do u mean a guidance counseler? I didn't see your previous question so I don't know what type of problems you are having. If you feel that the counseler is doing something inappropriate, then contact your school principal, or if you are going to a mental health clinic, then ask to speak to their administrator.
