How long will owing previous taxes delay my refund?
Q. I am currently on an installment plan with the IRS for some previous taxes owed. The amount of my refund this year will exceed the amount I still owe and I know this will come out of my current refund. How long will this delay my receiving the remainder of my refund? Thanks!

A. A couple of weeks tops. You will get credit for your refund as of the date the return is processed.

If there is a small offset on my refund, does it delay the refund date?
Q. I have a refund of $5047 thats supposed to be DD on Friday, the 29th. I found out I owe the Dept of State $116 for a returned check on a passport from several years ago and that is going to be taken from my refund. Does that generally delay the refund date?
Asked by Thomas - Tue Jan 26 10:58:46 2010 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. An offset could but does not always delay the refund. It appears from my experience it depends on the nature of the offset. If it is clear cut, as yours appears to be, there is little if any delay.

A. Go to and click Where's My Refund? If that does not give you a time estimate, you can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to see if they have a time estimate.

A. I first had refund to be deposited 1/25, then "there is a delay in processing your refund" recvd a cp-05 letter which basically told me nothing, would receive a refund or another letter within 3 weeks from 2/18! The people at the IRS are NO help at all. I don't think there is anything wrong with any of our returns. I think they are just slow and are using these codes as excuses to hold our money. I am so sure they will be paying us interest on our money that they owe us! The exact same thing happened to me last year. H&R block on line. E-filed. Still have been waiting almost 6 weeks!

A. I was accepted on 1/20. When I checked the wheres my refund the first time it said Feb. 6. Now it says Feb. 10th. I think all those that say Feb. 10th right now will get it this Fri. Feb. 6th but the IRS tacked on the 48-72 hours until alot of banks have to deposit it. I called the IRS and I think the music IS sublimenal to CALM you while you listen to it on hold for a half an hour atleast!. Even though I literally got a pain in my neck yesterday I decided to relax this was not worth it. This is the only info. I have found. How long does simple pay delay your IRS refund?
Q. I filed my taxes with HR Block online e-file, and according to the IRS website my refund is supposed to be direct deposited on March 5th, 2010, tomorrow. I'm wondering if anyone else used simple pay from HR Block, and how long that process delayed your IRS refund for compared to what the IRS website says. I expect a day or 2 but any longer than that would be a bit of a waste.

A. never heard of one state even knowing if you had a refund coming from another state or caring - probably won't delay anything you better pay it or sooner or later they might eventually garnish your wages and interest and penalty will keep increasing

If I file a business loss and trigger an audit, will that delay my refund?
Q. HR Block says that my loss on my business may trigger an audit. If I file it anyway, will that slow down my refund. I have the records to back up my loss. We are in the building stage of this plant nursery. But I need my refund. Will they hold up my refund until the audit is done, or will they give me my refund, then audit?

A. It depends on how quickly they decide to audit you. The loss does not guarantee you an audit

A. You asked this question an hour ago and the answer hasn't changed since then. Please don't post the same question multiple times. When the money shows up in your account depends upon how your bank processes ACH transactions. Some banks process them in real time around the clock. In that case the money would turn up in your account within a few hours of the IRS sending it, though many banks won't make it available to you until the beginning of the next banking day. Other banks batch-process all transactions at the end of the banking day. If your deposit was sent with the Thursday transmittals from the IRS, your bank would not process it until Friday evening. The money would not be available to you in your account until the beginning… [cont.]

Can anyone Confirm Refund Delay Information I got?
Q. Talked with SBBT about refund delay she stated that the irs is still depositing refunds as we speak? and that they are expecting more. Second spoke with my business banker at National City and she said they had an internal email stating that the irs deposit batches were corrupted on the 27th and 28th and that they should be expecting more deposits throughout the day! Please tell me someone else has heard this as I was one of those that got pushed back to the 24th of Feb. yes I called the irs agents directly and that was like talking to a brick wall drunk! and basically I'm simply trusting my bank for information as the IRS agents are clueless couldn't tell me anything. A. I don't think anyone knows what's going on. There are many rumors of this that and the other. I think they are telling people worst case scenario. I hope you get your money sooner than that though. I did not do DD so im not sure. My check is still set to be mailed on the 6th. Did you call the automated IRS system to check your DD date? Or just on WMR? WMR is off and on and off again so i'd trust the phone system. Best of luck x

If a person e-files their federal income tax and is getting close to 10k back, will that delay the refund?
Q. in any way? I have heard that the IRS generally puts a hold on returns filed that show over a certain return amount due so they can either verify or audit the return...is this true?
Asked by moe520_71104 - Sun Jan 4 15:30:35 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You "heard" it here, so why do you think anyone will give you any other answer? The IRS has anti-fraud programs in place. If they didn't, people would make up numbers on their W-2s, file and hope that they could get, keep and spend the money before anyone noticed. The exact parameters are kept secret. Bill Gates asking for a $10,000 refund wouldn't surprise the IRS. Someone who worked at McDonalds, yes.

A. They update Tuesday Midnight. Wednesdays you will see a change if there will be one. I had a DD of 2/17. Today it was changed to I should have my refund by 3/10. On that note, I will probably be getting another update on Wednesday morning on 3/11 telling me a different reason because from what I understand the refunds are not direct deposited on any days but Friday.
