What is the period of a satellite in units of the period of the moon?
Q. A satellite is placed in orbit with a radius that is half the radius of the moon's orbit. Find its period in units of the period of the moon.

A. From Kepler's 3rd law, period T is proportional to R^1.5. Thus Tsat/Tmoon = (Rsat/Rmoon)^1/5 = 0.5^1.5 = 0.35355.

How do i get my period stopped after having a tubal ligation?
Q. I had my tubes tied about 5 years ago. Since then i have had periods every 2 to 3 weeks, it varies. I have no schedule to my period, which makes it hard to plan intimate activities. I am getting married in a few months and would like to know that i am not going to be on my period, on the wedding date. So how do i get my period stopped? I assume that i cannot take BC pills, since i have had a tubal. I am 34, smoke, and have family history of stroke and heart attack.

A. Unfortuantely the only way to stop it is to use hormones such as BCpills. Your risk factors are really high really making that not an option. Talk to your physician about this. There may be new stuff on the market that could help. Good luck!

My period is late and my birth control needs to start again?
Q. I am on birth control and my period hasnt come yet, I am normally down the the hour when i get it. This month it hasnt come yet, and I have taken a pregnancy test, it came out negative. Do I start my new month or do I wait until I get my period or a test says im pregnant?
Asked by Michelle T - Fri Oct 24 01:49:02 2008 - Women's Health - 2 Answers - Comments

A. How long have you been taking birth control? Your period will be out of whack for a few cycles if you have just started. You would start your new pack regardless of starting your period or not, you need to take the pills everyday on time so your period can regulate itself.

What is a period in time where the economy was unique?
Q. I have to write a 5-10 page paper for economics. In this paper I need to analyze the economics behind a specific period in time. Furthermore, this period of time must be unique. For example, the Great Depression could be one, but I am looking for something besides a recession/depression period. Any ideas? Bonus points if you tell me a good period in time to use AND tell me what happened during that period economically.

Is your period supposed to start right when your birth control placebo week starts?
Q. I've been on Sprintec for 2 months now. I started it because of terrible cramps and because my period is so irregular. The first month, my period started like 2 days before my placebo week started. This month, my placebo week started a few days ago and still no sign of my period. I know for a fact that I'm not pregnant or anything, I'm just trying to figure out how it's all supposed to work... When is it supposed to come? Does it take a few days or is it supposed to start right away?
Asked by Hannah - Tue Dec 13 02:09:06 2011 - Women's Health - 4 Answers - Comments

A. when i started birth control, it took a few months for things to regulate. you should see the period matching up a little more with the placebo week after the 3rd month. it may be 6+ months before you really see it regulate. plus, some women take up to a year to for their period to sync up exactly to the packet, especially if they vary their scheduled time for taking it, because everyone's chemistry is different. :)

What is the quarantine period for my dog to and from the United States?
Q. I live in Hong Kong and I have a 11 month female Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I am thinking about bringing her over to the state of California from Hong Kong for a short holiday. Will my 11 month puppy be quarantined in California once it reaches there and will she be quarantined again upon returning to Hong Kong? How long is the quarantine period? Some say that there is no quarantine period providing that all inoculation papers are in order. Others say there will be a six month period. Still others say to call the airline. What is the best answer? Who should I get in touch with?

A. There is no quarantine, but only a general health check and verification of rabies vaccination. Here is the site that tells all> Our only quarantine is for unvaccinated dogs, and livestock working dogs, or dogs going to Hawaii..

A. Most of the time as the week gose on your flow will get lighter, because your working to the end of your period, tampons have nothing to do with it. Just make sure you were a pad to bed.

I'm supposed to start my period tomorrow, and my breasts are so sore. How can I feel better?
Q. I'm almost 16, and my periods are always bad. I usually get symptoms 1 week or a week and a half before my period starts. My periods then last almost a week. So 2 weeks out of the month, I suffer with the stupid period symptoms and the period. Tomorrow is the day I should start my period, and I can't help but dread it. Tomorrow is Monday, and that is already worse enough, let alone being bloated and feeling like crap. How can I feel better about my self?

Will my period still start after taking one or two days of Provera?
Q. I'm posting in this forum because people posting here have had more experience with Provera, although it seems they are using it to regulate their periods for fertility reasons. I've been put on Provera (5 mg) for 7 days to delay my period because of an upcoming vacation. I feel bloated and think my period will start regardless of having taken my first pill today. If it does start, will the Provera stop it before my 7 days suppy is gone?

A. you aren't supposed to see your cycle until 3-5 days after your provera treatment is done. but it differs with every-ones body.

And how long does it take for ovulation to start after the period is over? What I mostly want to know is after your period is over when is the best time to have sex in order to get pregnant?
Asked by army wife - Sun Jan 6 17:24:13 2008 - Trying to Conceive - 9 Answers - Comments

A. if you have a 28 day cycle then you ovulate around day 14, but as early as the 10th. count the first day you started your period (normal flow, spotting doesn't count) when you get to the 14th around that time. but it could be as early as the 10th day so day around that time. (this has worked for me three times) also pay attention to you cervical mucas (cm) or discharge, when it is runny like egg whites, kind of stringy. that is just before you ovulate so do the baby dance. good luck!!!

Will my period end sooner if I start my next pack of birth control instead of taking the placebos?
Q. I have been on birth control for a while. It got kinda messed up recently. After four days of taking placebos, and I didn't get my period, I decided to start a new pack of active pills yesterday, being Monday, and then got my period. I am planning on being on the beach Friday and I was wondering if because I started the new pack of pills if my period would end sooner than normal.

A. It is unlikely, how every you might of messed up your period for the next month. The hormones in BC will not alter the flow of you period, they are unrelated.

How long until your period is supposed to regulate?
Q. I've had my period for about 3 and a half years and it still is very irregular. The longest time between periods has been 2 months and the shortest time has been less than 14 days. I know when you first get your period it's supposed to be irregular, but I feel like 3 years is a really long time for it to still be this irregular. What should I do?/Would going on the pill help?

Asked by foxxy - Tue Dec 23 12:09:27 2008 - Women's Health - 7 Answers - Comments

A. from a female i have acquired the knowkedge that: if you're young it is quite normal for periods to be a bit irregular and erratic, if you can rule out pregnancy then there is really nothing to worry about. do not put tampons in unless you are on your period as this can induce toxic shock syndrome. can't you have a word with your mum, she may be sympathetic about allowing you to use tampons on holiday if it starts. but it is perfectly normal for periods to be a bit out on timing if you're young, try not to worry about it as getting stressed can delay periods. hope this helps.
