A. from a female i have acquired the knowkedge that: if you're young it is quite normal for periods to be a bit irregular and erratic, if you can rule out pregnancy then there is really nothing to worry about. do not put tampons in unless you are on your period as this can induce toxic shock syndrome. can't you have a word with your mum, she may be sympathetic about allowing you to use tampons on holiday if it starts. but it is perfectly normal for periods to be a bit out on timing if you're young, try not to worry about it as getting stressed can delay periods. hope this helps.

Q. i'm wondering if periods are genetic. What i am saying is, will i have the same cyle as my mother. She has a heavy period for 3 days and I am the same way. Also she started around the same time as she did. Does this sound very genetic?

What period in the annals of Science would you most like to visit?
Q. What scientific setting would you like to visit, if you could spend an afternoon in the past? I would like to visit the old wooden and glass laboratories of the early 1900's when so many amazing discoveries and gadgets were made in chemistry and physics. Old blackboards covered with esoteric scientific hieroglyphics, and old graphite lubricated sliderules at the ready, I find this period the most inviting and interesting to me. There is something romantic about the period and setting. Concerning Scientific matters, where (and what time period ) would you like to go if you could -- for an afternoon?

Will my period end sooner if I start my next pack of birth control instead of taking the placebos?
Q. I have been on birth control for a while. It got kinda messed up recently. After four days of taking placebos, and I didn't get my period, I decided to start a new pack of active pills yesterday, being Monday, and then got my period. I am planning on being on the beach Friday and I was wondering if because I started the new pack of pills if my period would end sooner than normal.

A. yes; everyone is different. When I first missed my period I felt like it was going to start because I had cramping and I felt bloated a lot. Then came along all the other symptoms so I took a pregnancy test and it was positive. good luck

A. Well, I didnt know I was pregnant until 6 weeks after conception. My periods have always been off. I could go 2 months without having one, and still come out NOT pregnant. The way I learned I was pregnant... For 2 or 3 days I was having horrible lower abdominal pain. If I moved, it would start up and make me buckle over. I was taken to the ER because we thought it was my appendix. I think everyone is different. Some of my friends say when they boobs started to tingle, or a metal taste in their mouth and all these other things.

Will my period still start after taking one or two days of Provera?
Q. I'm posting in this forum because people posting here have had more experience with Provera, although it seems they are using it to regulate their periods for fertility reasons. I've been put on Provera (5 mg) for 7 days to delay my period because of an upcoming vacation. I feel bloated and think my period will start regardless of having taken my first pill today. If it does start, will the Provera stop it before my 7 days suppy is gone?

A. you aren't supposed to see your cycle until 3-5 days after your provera treatment is done. but it differs with every-ones body.

Is period always supposed to start on white pills w/ birth control?
Q. I just started birth control like two weeks after my period, should I get my period in the middle of the pack or during the white pills. I've never had any spotting or side effects during the three weeks I've taken them. Just curious. I'm just concerned because I started on a random day instead of during my period, or the Sunday right after.

What is the period of a satellite in units of the period of the moon?
Q. A satellite is placed in orbit with a radius that is half the radius of the moon's orbit. Find its period in units of the period of the moon.
Asked by Chris - Tue Dec 8 14:39:58 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. From Kepler's 3rd law, period T is proportional to R^1.5. Thus Tsat/Tmoon = (Rsat/Rmoon)^1/5 = 0.5^1.5 = 0.35355.

How long after period do you start gaining weight and your breasts develop?
Q. Im 15 and i have had my period for a little over a year. I was wondering when i will start gaining weight and having my breasts start to develop. I know some women have all of this before they get their period but my sister had it all happen after she got her period! Any guesstimates?

A. I disagree with the comment about that's how your breasts will look forever at 19. I've realized that breasts seem to change almost more than any other part of the body. I haven't had any major weight loss or gains but my breasts have changed sizes and firmness varying between smaller and larger than what they were. I didn't have much in the chest area at 19 and grew more after (though i still don't have a whole lot. lol). They also change with child birth and nursing as well as diet changes, etc. Anyway, if you've had your period for over a year you should be starting to notice breast development in the near future- around 16 or so i would think. I had mine for 3-4 years before i saw any real development. How long after did your sister… [cont.]

Do you always start your period 14 days after ovulation?
Q. I ovulated on the 5th of August. I have not yet started my period. I took a pregnancy test on Wednesday, August 21st (Day 29) and it came back negative. Am I definately pregnant, or could I still start my period? Should I take another pregnancy test? When? Also, is it possible that I would have a delayed period, the time between ovulation and my period longer than 14 days?

A. Sell in May and go away. The Dines Letter (TDL) by James Dines gives good statistics on seasonalities. I get it at my central library. Other places: honestly though, you might as well use the winners of the super bowl or the the length of hemlines or horrrorscopes. Better yet, just guess. Statistics are for the news media to report for the losers.

A. How long have you been taking birth control? Your period will be out of whack for a few cycles if you have just started. You would start your new pack regardless of starting your period or not, you need to take the pills everyday on time so your period can regulate itself.

A. if you have a 28 day cycle then you ovulate around day 14, but as early as the 10th. count the first day you started your period (normal flow, spotting doesn't count) when you get to the 14th around that time. but it could be as early as the 10th day so day around that time. (this has worked for me three times) also pay attention to you cervical mucas (cm) or discharge, when it is runny like egg whites, kind of stringy. that is just before you ovulate so do the baby dance. good luck!!!

What is the quarantine period for my dog to and from the United States?
Q. I live in Hong Kong and I have a 11 month female Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I am thinking about bringing her over to the state of California from Hong Kong for a short holiday. Will my 11 month puppy be quarantined in California once it reaches there and will she be quarantined again upon returning to Hong Kong? How long is the quarantine period? Some say that there is no quarantine period providing that all inoculation papers are in order. Others say there will be a six month period. Still others say to call the airline. What is the best answer? Who should I get in touch with?

A. There is no quarantine, but only a general health check and verification of rabies vaccination. Here is the site that tells all> Our only quarantine is for unvaccinated dogs, and livestock working dogs, or dogs going to Hawaii..

Q. I quit breastfeeding, and I now have my first period since after I had the baby. This is my 8th day of my period. Before, my average period would last 6-7 days.

When will I start my period while taking birth control?
Q. You're supposed to start taking birth control the Sunday after your period. I started taking it one week later. I've been taking it faithfully every day and this is my first month. 2 days ago I started the "white" pills. I haven't started my period yet. My question is, after you start the white pill, when will your period start? Also, is it normal for the pill to upset your stomach a little bit. Sometimes I feel sick to my stomach but it's different than the pregnant sickness.

A. My pills are completely backwards from the sounds of it. When you say "white" I will assume you mean the pills lacking hormones, sometimes considered placebos. It depends on your body and the pill. If you were irregular before it may take a few packs to regulate your cycle and figure out when you will start. You should (theoretically) start the pill during the placebos generally from the first to fourth day (again this will depend on the pill since some have more days of placebo than others). Also, while you are beginning the pill it may upset your stomach, if the directions say drink plenty of water with the pill, then do that it may help with the upset stomach, otherwise take it with crackers/toast. If that does not help the time of day… [cont.]
