Anyone Getting an IRS Refund Status Change message today?
Q. Is anyone else now getting a "We are sorry, we cannot provide any information about your refund." message on the IRS refund site this morning? Initially had a "refund will be sent out" message last week that changed to refund delay because I believe I owed so back tax. Now this morning I'm getting the no information message on both the website and call in number.

IRS Refund?
Q. The IRS says they deposited to my bank account on 1/25/08. My bank still does not see this deposit. I know I gave the IRS the correct information, because on the tax software I only inputted my bank information once, and my State refund has already went through. What time of the day does the IRS usually release the refunds for direct deposit? How is it that the bank cannot see this deposit yet? Does anyone know how this works? I am getting worried...

A. The ACH transmittals go out Thursday evening normally. How long it takes your bank to get it into your account is up to your bank. If they batch process then it was run Friday evening and may be later today before it shows up in your account. If you're with a small community bank or credit union that isn't on the Fedline system it can take an additional 2 to 5 business days to post. Not all banks have the ability to see pending ACH transactions. It has NOTHING to do with Block, either. It's between the IRS and your bank, nobody else.

How long will it take me to receive an IRS refund after filing an amended return - form 1040X?
Q. I have three years worth of amended returns to file with sizable added refunds due for the past three years. I am mailing them on Monday - how long before I should receive my check from the IRS? The years I am filing are 2004, 2005, and 2006. I filed Single with a Dependent instead of Head of Household.
Asked by keefe36 - Fri Feb 29 13:08:30 2008 - United States - 4 Answers - Comments

A. I filed an amended return last year and they said it would take 8-12 weeks and it took every bit of the 12 weeks to get the refund. They were not doing anything or letting that refund go before that 12 weeks was up. I know that's not good news but just sit back and wait. It'll be nice when it does come!

The IRS refund site was listing my return as being processed. Now it has "no information" What happened?
Q. I E-filed my return on 1/22/08. It was accepted the same day and the next day my refund status was "being processed" and that I should receive my refund by Feb 5, 2008, as a direct deposit. Now the refund status website has "no information" about my return. What happened? Does that mean my return has a problem?
Asked by MysticMommy - Tue Jan 29 08:49:58 2008 - United States - 2 Answers - Comments

A. If you checked today, I believe they were having trouble with the website. You can call this number 1-800-829-1954 with your information and it should be up to date. Not to scare you, but the year before last, I received a similar message and it turns out that I had transposed a number on one of my kids SS #. I called and was able to fix the problem quickly and had my return within that week.

Is there a way to cash in an IRS refund check which is in my husband's and his ex-wife's name?
Q. We got an IRS tax refund check and its in both their names. How do I go about cashing at least part of it without her involvement, since she has moved out of the country?
Asked by andromeda74 - Mon Jul 30 15:29:17 2007 - United States - 5 Answers - Comments

A. Is it for a year that your husband and his ex-wife filed together? If not, if it was for a year that it was you and he filing together it might be worth a call to the irs to get this straightened out for the future. Your husband can try depositing the check, but might have a hard time unless he deposits it into a joint account with him and his ex-wife. Otherwise, she could show up someday and ask for her half of the check.

what are some causes for the irs to reduce your federal refund? when i went to the webisite it said?
Q. Your refund may be reduced to pay a past due obligation such as child support, another federal agency debt, or state income tax. If this applies to you, the Financial Management Service, who issues IRS refunds, will send you a notice informing you of any offset they have made. The details of the debt are not provided to the IRS. Please do not call us to inquire about the details because we will not be able to answer your questions. Instead, direct any questions you have about the offset or debt to the agency identified on the notice.

A. This is called "Revenue Protection" procedures. (Yes, this is real). It means the IRS has questions about all or part of your refund. Most often, this is caused by a claim for EIC over $2500 when there is questions as to your eligibility. Reasons for this include that someone tried to claim the same children in a prior tax year or even in the current tax year. Or the IRS sees a suspicious pattern. If you are entitled to a refund and your claim is legit, the only way to make your refund come is to answer and return the questionnaire or letter as quickly as you get it. Tax Advisor

Why does the IRS cycle chart have a Friday deposit but the Where's My Refund tool is telling me Tuesday?
Q. I e-filed on-line using HR Block Free File. My submission was accepted on 1/28 which means based on the IRS Refund Cycle Chart I should have my direct deposit on 2/11. But when I use the Where's My Refund tool on the IRS website it tells me I should expect a direct deposit on 2/15 (a Tuesday?) Has anyone else received their deposit on a Tuesday?

A. Just allowing a few extra days for your account holder to do their thing since the IRS is sending the REFUND amount out of their hands into the pipeline to your account holder that you chose to use on your 1040 tax form on the tentative schedule date that is shown on the recycle chart Publication 2043 which is usually done in the early AM on Friday mornings and some account holders take more than 1 day for them to finish the processing and getting your REFUND amount available to you in whatever way you chose for this purpose. Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful and good luck to you.

What's the REAL schedule for IRS refund deposits now?
Q. The IRS has a table stating date of acceptance and date of returns being deposited/mailed. Is it incorrect? Anyone get their refund on the date the table says? Or how much of a delay is there now?
Asked by Will Play 4 Gumbo - Sat Mar 6 12:53:57 2010 - United States - 3 Answers - Comments

A. The published charts are accurate for most people, although the IRS does not guarantee a particular date. Consider the larger picture. If you based your perceptions on what you read here on Yahoo, you'd think the system was totally screwed up. But that's because the vast majority of people who do get their refunds on time according to the schedule don't make posts about it. To be honest, as an IRS employee I'm amazed at how well the system DOES work, given the 150 million or so returns we process and the fact that we use a 1960s computer system for most of them.

ok my refund from the IRS can be taken with a credit company ,but how long does it take ? IRS refund by 04/01?
Q. Received a garnishment letter today 3/18 and was todl that my IRS refund will be mailed by 4/1 so, I am wondering if my IRS refund will be taken by the time span being so short. What can I do abou the garnishment. I am a server so, that can't garnish my wages.
Asked by adpeterscreel - Wed Mar 19 01:41:57 2008 - United States - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Your tax refund cannot be captured for ordinary credit debts, even if a garnishment order is secured by the creditor. Garnishments only apply to your wages, not your tax refund. Your tax refund can only be captured to settle debts for back taxes owed to the IRS or your state, unpaid child support in arrears, or government backed or direct student loans in default status. Your wages can always be garnished if enough money is left after taxes are withheld from your pay if you live in a state that allows wage garnishments. If you are a tipped employee in "negative paycheck" status due to high tips then you're essentially garnishment proof, but merely being a server doesn't, in and of itself, bar garnishment of your wages.

A. I first had refund to be deposited 1/25, then "there is a delay in processing your refund" recvd a cp-05 letter which basically told me nothing, would receive a refund or another letter within 3 weeks from 2/18! The people at the IRS are NO help at all. I don't think there is anything wrong with any of our returns. I think they are just slow and are using these codes as excuses to hold our money. I am so sure they will be paying us interest on our money that they owe us! The exact same thing happened to me last year. H&R block on line. E-filed. Still have been waiting almost 6 weeks!
