Q. A good topic means I could find a lot of information to support my point. Please give me some idea. it has to be an argumentative one! please also tell me what could I write about on the suggested topic
Asked by ~hope~ - Mon May 7 22:21:42 2007 - Homework Help - 6 Answers - Comments

A. you could write about the debate over which is more beneficial in treating mental disorders - therapy or medication. Much research has been put forth saying that therapy will be no longer needed because medication can take its place. So what future does therapy have in the treatment of disorders, such as bi-polar or depression. Research the many prescription drugs being used to treat these illnesses and what benefits therapy has for the patient. Good luck and I hope this gives you some ideas.

A. I have to do something similar, I have to choose a topic for a Power Point presentation so I feel your pain. I chose the debate between Mac or PC. I've done some other presentation's on capitalism vs. socialism, but be careful w/ this one! try to stay neutral on this as not to offend your instructor. Try to use a topic that is relevant to the class, or maybe a topic your instructor is interested in. hope this helps & good luck!

A. LSU, I think they changed that link... I think that the recent news about Michael Jackson's doctor would make an interesting argumentative essay. How much power should celebrities be able to exert over their doctors? Should the doctors of celebrities have access to drugs that most doctors do not have access to? Who holds these doctors accountable? Could Michael Jackson's death have been prevented by a different course of treatment? Speech Topics

What is the correct way to write an argumentative essay? I need a outline how to write an argumentative essay?
Q. I already create the introduction, but i need help on the correct way to write an argumentative essay. Here my introduction (if it help) Many entering college freshman today begin with remedial courses, often a result of not passing the necessary pre-requisite exams required to get into higher-level courses. The National Center for Education Statistics reports that one in 10 freshmen and sophomores enrolled in U.S. colleges take at least one remedial course. The increasing number of freshmen entering college enrolled in remedial courses is a result of the poor performance of high school education.

A. Actually from your introduction it doesn't sound like the beginning of an argumentative essay. It sounds like a factual essay -- a journalistic type report. I also think that the introduction should be prepared last, after you know what you are going to say in the argument part of the essay and can set it up effectively in the introduction. For example, an argumentative essay might advocate that college admissions should become more stringent to weed out the students who need remedial help to compete effectively in the college level curriculum. Or you might argue that more remedial course opportunities should be made available in more formats in order to permit students to easily catch up. A basic outline can follow the general formula --… [cont.]

What are some argumentative appeals besides logos, ethos, and pathos?
Q. There is an essay due tomorrow and it asks us to incorporate ethos, logos, and pathos. We also have to incorporate 5 other argumentative appeals in addition to ethos, logos, and pathos. I have no idea what other argumentative appeals there are.
Asked by Alex Gain - Tue Apr 19 22:18:07 2011 - Homework Help - 1 Answers - Comments

A. There are no others argumentative techniques. The goal of argumentative writing is to persuade your audience that your ideas are valid, or more valid than someone else's. The Greek philosopher Aristotle divided the means of persuasion, appeals, into three categories--Ethos, Pathos, Logos. Ethos (Credibility), or ethical appeal, means convincing by the character of the author. We tend to believe people whom we respect. One of the central problems of argumentation is to project an impression to the reader that you are someone worth listening to, in other words making yourself as author into an authority on the subject of the paper, as well as someone who is likable and worthy of respect. Pathos (Emotional) means persuading by appealing to… [cont.]

How to write an argumentative essay about Yoruba women?
Q. I'm writing an argumentative research paper on Yoruba women. I want to do something on women being inferior to men based on their cultural tradations but I don't know how to formulate that into a thesis that could be argued. Please help.
Asked by brit - Sat Apr 5 14:08:15 2008 - Gender & Women's Studies - 1 Answers - Comments

A. If you want to talk about female subjugation - the Yoruba are a really bad place to start. Yoruba women have a clearly defined role in their society, but not just as housemakers (they tend to manage the house expenses independently, have almost total control of childcare and education issues, and even a strong public identity through their churchwork). The Hausa keep their women down much more than the Yoruba do. If you are determined to work on the Yoruba you will need to argue that a woman's independence is somehow less valuable than a man's. I lived in Yoruba societies for several years. You would find it hard to convince me of that.

Asked by Liz - Mon Oct 19 19:21:43 2009 - Homework Help - 1 Answers - Comments

A. A rhetorical analysis does not have to conflict with a given point, where as a argumentative essay focuses on opposing views. (key is "not have to", but sometimes does as a point of reference)

A. Consider Both Sides of Your Topic and Take a Position Gather Evidence 1. Introduce your topic and assert your side As in any essay, the first paragraph of your argument essay should contain a brief explanation of your topic, some background information, and a thesis statement. In this case, your thesis will be a statement of your position on a particular controversial topic. 2. Present both sides of the controversy The body of your essay will contain the meat of your argument. You should go into more detail about the two sides of your controversy and state the strongest points of the counter-side of your issue. Q. I need to write a research paper about anything that's argumentative. I was thinking of doing it based upon relationships between two people (friendship, love, etc.) but I can't seem to narrow it down to one specific thing. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

A. That wouldn't be a hard choice for me but then I've been arguing against pop culture anti-wisdom mantras for years. I've taken on pop culture's skepticism in absentia (refusal to be judged) and set about arguing for judging people according to the content of their character. I think this would fit your general requirement for argument and drill down to a specific purpose of argument.

What is the difference between an argumentative and a persuasive essay?
Q. I already did a persuasive speech on getting people to sign up for an ATV safety course. Could the paper I wrote for this class be used as an argumentative essay for another class? I have already spoken with one of my teachers about using work I've done from other classes in his class, and was told by him that this is a good way to budget my time. I was thinking of re-working the persuasive paper along the lines of "Wearing a helmet versus not wearing a helmet"...What do you think?? Thanks.

Asked by sky blue - Sun Jul 26 12:45:20 2009 - Homework Help - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Just start with the line, "Honey dear, do you think these jeans make my butt look big?" The arguments will sail as fast as a frying pan across the kitchen. I do not know the The Tale, but in any love story, you can call into question whether someone truly loved another. What did they do to demonstrate that love? Did it demonstrate it fully? Or was it going through the motions. Perhaps if real love was demonstrated, the argument is that it is a love that should never have happened. Argue that point. You can argue anything. Just look to the poiticians for examples.
